A message from Chair Peoples:
After nearly a decade of organization, mobilization, and progress, I am announcing that I will be stepping down from my position as Chair of the Tarrant County Democratic Party.
Now it is time to pass the torch to the next generation. Tarrant County is young, vibrant, and full of potential. I see my work as Chair as a years-long pursuit of building consensus and reaching out to new communities, and I want my final act to be one that empowers the next generation to continue expanding the tent.
From the beginning as Chair, I was committed to engaging with folks of all backgrounds. I am so proud of the work we did to create and expand the reach of community-focused committees such as the Educator-to-Educator Committee, the Black Voter Impact Committee, the Latin-X Voter Outreach Committee, the Asian American and Pacific Islander Democrats Committee, and the Labor Relations Committee.
I find myself saying this more and more these days: we in Fort Worth and Tarrant County need to look beyond our surface-level differences and unite around a common purpose: helping promote a living wage, providing affordable housing by keeping property taxes in-check, and eliminating barriers to affordable healthcare. That’s a message I think a lot of us can unite around, and I will spend the rest of my days working to make it a reality.
Now I’m putting all my focus on winning on June 5th to unite us into One Fort Worth. Thank you, Tarrant County. I can’t wait to see what the future holds.
An election will be held by the County Executive Committee (CEC) for a new leader who will have the immeasurable task of filling her shoes. If you are interested in the role, you can reach out to Executive Director, Marco Rosas. In the Special CEC Meeting last night, Deborah assured us she isn't going anywhere, though!

Legislative Affairs Update Republicans are scarring democracy in the Texas Legislature right now. Without public notice and ignoring calls for a public hearing, HB6 was never debated on by the full house, and SB7 went to a committee meeting on April 29. It is still stained with tainted language that is not acceptable. Please continue to ask your legislators to vote both of them down.
The access to abortion fight is being lost with the recent passage of the heartbeat bill through the house chamber further degrading women's right to control their bodies (read more here). We thought we were passed the attack on transgender children, but turns out we're up against our own. Soon, it'll be easier to wave a gun around than drive or vote thanks to scared Republicans who voted for legislation knowing it isn't a good idea. The fight on redistricting is still ongoing and will last beyond the legislative session concluding within the next 21 days.
Join the next Legislative Affairs Committee meeting Thursday, May 13th @ 5pm on Zoom chaired by Gayland Taylor.
